I feel guilty for laughing after losing someone I loved
Posted Jul 17
My dad died four months ago. Yesterday I laughed at a stupid video and then immediately felt like I'd betrayed him. Grief is supposed to look a certain way in my head — quiet, heavy, respectful — and laughter doesn't fit that picture. I know he would've wanted me to laugh. I know grief isn't linear. But the guilt shows up every time I catch myself enjoying something. Does the guilt around being happy ever soften, or do you just learn to live with it?
